Meet the committee: Will Nicholas

29 January 2021, by Chrissie Martin

Say ‘Hello’ to our new treasurer, Will Nicholas.

Tell us about your tennis life

I was born and raised in Florida and growing up my brothers and sister and I played every kind of sport that we could, including tennis.  I’m a self-taught tennis player and therefore have all sorts of bad habits which Joe Cartledge is trying to fix – good luck to him.  My game is to run the ball down and hit it back!  I joined the Club last May mainly to meet other people as my family and I are new to Oxford having moved here in the summer of 2017.  COVID has delayed the social aspects of the Club, but I am looking forward to meeting members when the situation allows

What does your role on the committee involve?

As Treasurer I am responsible for the financial management of the Club including overseeing our external accountant, banking and payments, and generally assisting Sarah, our Chairman, with financial matters.

What’s the best thing about NOLTC?

The Club is blessed with a large number of courts. So far I have never had a situation when I have not been able to book a court when I wanted to play.

What other sports do you enjoy?

I’m a keen snowboarder and wakeboarder, and got my fix of wakeboarding by living with my family in Malta for 7 years prior to moving to Oxford.

What is your favourite film?

I’m going to cheat and pick two.  Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro and Cool Hand Luke, starring Paul Newman (after all, who doesn’t like a Paul Newman movie?)

What is your signature dish?

I make a spicy salmon pasta dish, with grilled vegetables and sun-dried tomato pesto.

What was the last gig you went to?

I’m a big fan of electronic music and saw Carbon Based Lifeforms in Copenhagen a year and a half ago – don’t judge me!

What was your most memorable holiday?

Goa, India, for my honeymoon with my soulmate, Inga.

What do you wish for the future of NOLTC?

I relish the opportunity to meet other members socially and I hope we can create a vibrant, club community.
