COVID-19 Update

17 March 2020, by Chrissie Martin

At North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club we are closely monitoring the advice coming from both the Government and the Lawn Tennis Association.

We have taken the decision to stop all Junior squads from Saturday until w/c 21st April.  We will also not be running any Easter Camps.  In terms of other coaching, individual and small groups are still possible but will need to adapt to take into account the advised social distancing measures.

Adopt low player-to-court ratios (such as singles or doubles) or individual coaching as per the Government’s advised social distancing measures (defined by Public Health England as spending no more than 15 minutes and not within a 2-metre distance talking to someone)
Avoid close proximity when giving feedback, or when players are resting
Ensure no physical contact between players during warm-ups or games
No other unnecessary extra-curricular or social activity should take place
To this end, and the fact that we have closed the Clubhouse, we are moving the scoring system for our singles box ladder and our mixed box ladders to online, in the next couple of days so if you want to continue playing these you can do so.   We will also be extending our Mixed Box ladder in light of the suspension of all League fixtures.

We have ordered soap dispensers for the bathrooms, however they have yet to arrive and as the soap keeps disappearing we cannot guarantee that there will be soap when you need to wash your hands prior to and after the tennis activity, so it may be best if you come prepared for the worst!

Please remember that some of the people you meet on the court may have underlying medical conditions, or family members who are not in the best of health. Therefore if you show any symptoms of the virus please do not come to the club. There will be many, many future occasions to play so stay at home and rest if you are at all unwell.

Anyone who has been advised to self-isolate or stay at home based on the advice on the NHS.UK website should clearly not therefore take part in tennis activities for the duration of the specified period.

Thank you for your co-operation and please do all you can to stay safe and well.
