August already!  Wimbledon and Club championships behind us – see photos and winners below.  Only one grand slam remaining: The US Open: Sunday, 24 Aug – Sunday, 7 Sept 2025.  Will Sinner do it again or can Jack Draper win his first slam?  Come down and watch on the club’s TVs.

This year’s Nicky Maskens Memorial Cup event took place on Thursday 12th June with around 40 players participating and contributing over £450 to this very deserving cause – thank you everyone.

We still have a lot of membership cards behind the bar, please pop in to collect yours and your free drinks voucher – valid until end August.

On the club’s development plans, we have submitted funding applications to FCC Environment (landfill) and are finalising our application to the LTA for Padel and Clay courts.  We’re progressing the planning application for our 3 indoor courts, the new clubhouse and covers for our Padel courts.

We will keep you fully informed and consulted on progress, and when decisions need to be made.

We are, as ever, keen to receive any feedback from you and any ideas of how we can improve the Club, so please do contact us at northoxfordtennis@gmail.com or catch one of the Club committee team or Julian around the Club.

The Preston Bowl Mixed Doubles tournament at Abingdon Tennis Club, on Sunday 17th August 2025, from 1pm.

All of our Men’s, Ladies and Mixed teams have been in action in the Dunlop Summer leagues over the past few weeks. Some particularly notable wins during July included:

• NCL o50s 3-1 Knowle & Dorridge: Christian, Richard, John, Bruce (through to quarters)
• Ladies’ A 8-0 Woodstock: Homa, Lan, Sarah, Ainsley
• Ladies’ D 6-4 Watlington: Gabry, Karen, Margaret, Charlotte
• Ladies’ E 6-2 Faringdon: Heather, Kathy, Sue, Corin
• Men’s F 6-2 Appleton: Steve, Dermot, Pete, Eyal
• Mixed A 8-0 Witney: Joe, Claire, Katharine, Simon

We are now two-thirds of the way through the summer season.  We’ll round-up our teams on track for promotion in September’s newsletter.

Finally, the Ladies’ National League team will be playing away at David Lloyd Gloucester on 31/08 in the first round of the county playoffs.

We had a fantastic turn out for the Wimbledon and Club Championship finals on Sunday 13th July. Loads of food provided and consumed during the afternoon while Sinner and Alcaraz battled it out on Centre court.  Sinner prevailing in 4 sets.

Closer to home, the Club champs played out during the day, with winners and runners-up as follows:

• Men’s singles A Draw: Django Thompson beat Seth Carlisle 6-0, 6-3
• Men’s Singles B Draw: No result yet but Chris Phillips in final
• Men’s Singles C Draw: Gonzalo Rodriguez-Pereyra beat Antony Smith 6-3, 6-3
• Men’s Doubles A Draw: Scott Aspley/Simon Wikeley beat Paul Apostolides/Luke Strivens 6-1, 6-0
• Men’s Doubles B Draw: Alex Faulkner/Claudi Ruffman beat Peter Clark/Troels Henriksen 6-2, 1-6, 10-1
• Women’s Doubles: Lucy Denly/Hayyu Imanda beat Catherine Jackson/Margaret Williams 6-1, 6-0
• Mixed Doubles: No result yet but Alex Faulkner/Isobel Simmons in final
• Mens Doubles 55+: John Efthimiou/Tom Marshall beat John Brewster/Dave Rooney 6-4, 6-2

Otherwise, being August and with so many people on holiday, we are now planning events to run from September and over the Autumn.  More details to follow.

As a result of hosting the British Tour event last week, we now have a lot of used balls in good condition (each can used for one match only on grass) available to buy.

£3 per can or 4 cans for £10 available at the bar.

Get kitted out for the new season!  A reminder that we have stock of most club branded clothing, in a range of sizes, behind the bar for you to try and buy; along with racquet grips, dampeners, and tennis and Padel balls.  We also provide a racquet restringing service.

TENNIS BALL RECYCLING!

There is a tennis ball recycling bin just outside the main door to the clubhouse.  Please put your used balls in the recycling bin, instead of in the courtside bins where they are likely to be missed.

The ball machine now has a new replacement battery, so, fingers crossed, it should be working properly now.

Please book your court and pop into the clubhouse to rent and collect ball machine.
