Charity American Tournament in aid of SOS Ecuador – 6th June 6.30pm
3 June 2016, by Katie Leppard
A little over a month ago on April 16th an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 shook Ecuador’s northwestern coast. This is the worst catastrophe Ecuador has endured in four decades with 655 fatalties, 5,000 injuries, 29,000 people made homeless and about 1500 buildings, including homes, hospitals and schools destroyed or severely damaged. The cost to rebuild has been estimated at between $2bn-$3bn.
Mark King, a relatively new member of our tennis club whose wife is from Ecuador got in touch recently and nominated SOS Ecuador for this years chosen charity. And how could we refuse?
SOS Ecuador, a crowdfunding initative organised by Ecuadorian students in the United Kingdom, with the support of the Ecuadorian Embassy has already raised over £50,000 but so much more is required. Every penny raised goes directly to those affected. For more details about the cause please go to: crowdfunder.co.uk/sos-ecuador.
How can you help? Put the date in your diary and come to our charity American Tournament on the evening of 6th June at 6.30pm and support Mark and our chosen charity. The cost is £10 to enter. This is an extremely worthy cause for a country that is in desperate need.
