We had 13 courts in use, all the grass as well as 3 hard courts, as 52 people participated in our Charity Tournament yesterday. Despite the more autumnal weather a great time was had by all. We raised over £600 for Action for Carers Oxfordshire, which included donations from members who were not able to come.
The charity we are supporting is Action for Carers Oxfordshire. Kaye, the wife of one of our members, Nigel Francis, works for this agency and has provided this information about the charity.
“Caring is such an important part of life. No matter what race, religion or society, caring will cross most of our paths at some point. While often carers would say the rewards of caring are fulfilling, there are often hardships to be faced.
In Oxfordshire, before the Covid 19 Pandemic, there were around 61,500 unpaid carers. We know this has increased significantly and there are now around 75,000 people caring for a parent, partner, disabled child or even a friend.
Carers face new challenges every day, but they cannot do this alone. Action for Carers Oxfordshire supports these special people in our society to feel less lonely and more able to cope. We help them to look after themselves, by providing specialist support from somebody who genuinely cares about caring for carers.”
Thanks to all who participated and particularly those who helped with the set up, teas and of course the washing up.
In first place on both sides of the draw (Men and Ladies) Daniyar Bekakhmetov and Chris Slade.
2nd place Mark Bale and Noran Fouad
3rd place Mike Thomas and Rory Collins
With lucky dip winners Todd Liebenschutz-Jones and Ann Bevan
