North Oxford have made a winning start in the ATT regional league

North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club’s sponsorship with Display Solutions Ltd has got off to a great start with a dominant 12-0 win in the Regional Aegon Team Tennis league last week against Virgin Gloucester.

Display Solutions, a leading supplier in the digital signage market, is a company based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and is sponsoring North Oxford’s men’s A team as they chase promotion to the National Aegon Team Tennis League.

Display Solutions North Oxford is already the only team from Oxfordshire in the regional division and promotion would make them one of the strongest teams in the country.

Two years ago North Oxford missed out on promotion by a single set. The new sponsorship deal has allowed them to cover the travelling and match expenses of their players, meaning they can put out their best team more regularly.

Jeff Hunter, a former Davis Cup player for Great Britain and the current UK over 45s seniors champion, got the team off to a great start with a 6-0 7-5 victory. Josh Dawson, a Level 3 DCA tennis coach, won the second match 6-3 6-3.

After that, Jack Rooney and Tariq Khalifa eased North Oxford to a 4-0 lead with comfortable wins of 6-0 6-1 and 6-1 6-2 respectively.

The whitewash was completed when Hunter and Khalifa won their doubles rubber 6-4 6-1, and Dawson and Rooney beat their opponents 6-1 6-2.

‘This was a great start to the season and although it’s only the early stages, the signs are that this team has what it takes to win the league and get promoted to the national division,’ said Jack Rooney, team captain a former winner of the European Universities Championships with Leeds Metropolitan tennis team.

‘With guys like former ATP professional Jeff Hunter playing for us, the quality of the tennis is very high and we hope people from all over Oxford will come down to watch us, particularly when the sun comes out, we are playing on the grass courts, and the bar is open.’

Cheng Yoe, Managing Director of Display Solutions Ltd, said: ‘Display Solutions Ltd is a Cambridgeshire based company but because I’m a member at NOLTC, I jumped at the opportunity to sponsor the ATT team as the club is very vibrant and ambitious and feel very flattered to be involved.

‘I think the win by 12-0 is great and is the ideal start to reach the goal of qualifying for the ATT Nationals next year and I hope the team can sustain this performance for the rest of the fixtures.’

Display Solutions North Oxford’s second match of the campaign takes place away at Windsor on Sunday 17 April.
