North Oxford’s ATT promotion push continues with win

10 May 2016, by Matt Pickles

North Oxford’s men’s A team beat Salisbury on Sunday to stay in second place in the Aegon Team Tennis (ATT) regional league.

Although North Oxford’s teams lost both doubles matches, they swept the board in the singles. Josh Dawson beat his opponent 6-1 6-2, Jack Rooney won 6-4 3-6 1-6, Sam Heath won 6-4 1-6 and Christian Petersen completed the rout, winning 7-6 7-5.

North Oxford have now won three of their four matches, losing only to league leaders Thornden Tennis Club. Only one team can be promoted.

North Oxford’s team is the only one from Oxfordshire in the regional division of the ATT but they are bidding for promotion to the national league.

Their campaign is being helped by Display Solutions Ltd, which is covering the players’ smart kit, travel costs and match fees.

John Brewster of North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club said: ‘Despite a setback against a very strong Thornden side, the team has fought so well to be in second place in the league. We will do all we can to win our remaining three matches and keep the pressure on Thornden.

‘The last two matches will be played at North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club, on 5th and 19th of June, so it would be great to have a good home support for that to cheer the team to promotion.’

Cheng Yoe, Managing Director of Display Solutions Ltd, said: ‘The team have performed magnificently and are unfortunate to come up against such a good team like Thornden who just shaded their match. They can take great encouragement and continue to win their final matches.’
