Traditionally held on Bank Holiday Mondays, our American Tournaments are popular mixed doubles events organised throughout the summer season. Players of all abilities have the chance to compete with a number of different partners in a round robin format. You play 7 rounds of 7 games and players have a different partner in each round, with winners playing with losers from the previous round. It is a great way of meeting other members of the club and don’t worry if you don’t think you have got to grips with the rules, there are lots of members who will help you on your way.
After the first four rounds, we stop for a tea and a much needed rest! Not just a cup of tea but there is always a spread of tasty snacks too! Tea, tennis balls and scorecards are all provided, you just need to bring your racket and the entry fee of £5. Play starts at 2.00pm with registration any time from 1.30pm. Do come and join us whatever your ability, it is always great fun. New members are especially welcome.
We hold a charity American Tournament each year to support and raise money for a cause that is close to the heart of one of our members. The last three years we have had some extremely successful charity tournaments, one for Anthony Nolan, the UK’s blood cancer charity and bone marrow register, one for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and one for Myeloma UK.
We are very proud to have raised well over £4,000 as a club from just these three tournaments and we always look to our generous members and their friends and family to beat our previous total each year. Non-members are always extremely welcome to join in and play on our lovely grass courts.
We really enjoy welcoming other clubs to come and challenge us to some fun competitive tennis and likewise we enjoy going further afield too. We have several exchanges already set up with clubs both in England and abroad! With so much going on in Oxford, it is easy to entertain our guests during the day at our lovely club and by night in the city centre.
If your club would like to come and play a fun tournament at North Oxford, please do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
